Wild and outrageous idea. Custom virtual audio cable that comes preinstalled with Drop Deck. Diminishes the need for Loopback, VB cable, and any other 3rd party integrated system. Well. It's being tested. Zoom call? Set Drop Deck as an
audio device. Google Meeting? Set Drop Deck as your input. Is this the icing on the cake that closes the complete and stable run of the program as a whole? I think so. I reach. @MaddieM4 as an author of some of that X11 stuff, 1) I specifically tried to make it smaller and half-succeeded; 2) obviously you shouldn't have to install it at all if you're not going to talk to an X server. I'm glad you found a workable alternative

Sharkey is generally no longer actively maintained. Much like IceShrimp, which shifted its focus from IceShrimp-js to IceShrimp.net, Sharkey is effectively in "maintenance mode only." This means it still receives critical security updates and required patches, but it generally no longer tracks upstream Misskey development.

I had to laugh when, back on January 13, 2026, they titled a release "2025.4.5 — We'll catch up, we promise." The release right before that had been 6 months earlier. In all the time since, they've only pushed out 2 security updates (2025.4.6 and 2025.4.7). They are now well over a year behind Misskey's development.
If anyone has the time and skills, I hope someone builds a script to migrate Sharkey sites back to Misskey. Since Sharkey is a fork of Misskey (as was FireFish), it should be possible and is a smart precaution.

@Tempest@burningboard.net you might wanna check out Catodon. We forked the latest Sharkey stable 6 months ago and initially removed some of the least used features. Since then we have added a lot of features (including Lemmy-compatible Forums), we have merged useful commits from current Sharkey develop, and have now started cherrypicking current Misskey commits. We won't become a Misskey soft fork (we have already diverged significantly), but development is active and we'll be keeping an eye on Misskey for anything interesting to cherrypick.
I found this article on the dramatic reduction of violent crime in Baltimore inspiring:
• Haul in people who are problems.
• Stern talks from community elders, the law, social work, demanding that the shooting stops.
• The stick: the law is going to come after you.
• The carrot: education, housing, funding, employment.
Result: a lot less violence.
